Environmental sustainability in action

  • Last updated: June 14, 2017

The European cosmetics industry places a strong emphasis on the sustainability of its activities and products. The industry’s commitments and initiatives increasingly enable consumers to benefit from products with improved sustainability profiles and to adopt more sustainable consumption habits.

More and more cosmetics companies initiate and/or engage in existing sustainability-related activities, publish their targets and regularly report on their achievements.

To showcase these, Cosmetics Europe has prepared an overview of the European cosmetics industry’s contribution to socio-economic development and environmental sustainability and published a report presenting the actions that are being taken. The report contains numerous real-life examples of company actions, from responsible sourcing of ingredients, reduction of waste and of water and energy consumption during manufacturing, creative product design to reduce its carbon footprint, etc., to biodegradable packaging and consumer incentives for returning packaging that can be refilled and/or reused.
